Mother’s Day is just around the corner and one of the best ways to show your love is by sending flowers. While many Santa Cruz County florists were forced to temporarily close due to the shelter-in-place order, stores are slowly reopening to meet the expected demand from loyal customers. Although certain adjustments have been made, in terms of hours and method of delivery, it’s vitally important to support local small businesses now more than ever. It’s also important to celebrate mothers who deserve an extra special act or two of appreciation and kindness in this extraordinary year. Here is a look at 10 of the best flower shops in Santa Cruz County for Mother’s Day flowers.

A consistent mention as one of the area’s finest florists, Ace’s Flowers is reopening in time for Mother’s Day. No touch delivery and curbside pickup services began this week and orders can be placed online. At the time of the order, customers can also fill out an enclosure note for personal message to mom. Owner Amy Scott, whose mission statement is “Local, sustainable and organic” has more than 30 years of experience in floral design. She sources almost all of her premium quality flowers from local growers, primarily in Watsonville and the broader Pajaro Valley.

Serving Santa Cruz County since 1946, Ferrari Florist has two locations – Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley. Both locations are currently accepting online and phone deliveries, while operating normal hours Monday through Friday. There are more than 30 options online for Mother’s Day flower arrangements, with prices starting at $59.95. Deliveries are available to all locations within Santa Cruz County but fees vary for extended delivery areas. Ferrari Florist also offers a same day delivery to anywhere in the county for orders taken before 1 p.m.

One of the oldest floral shops in Watsonville, Flowers by Toshi is open for phone and online orders for no contact delivery and pickup. Current hours are listed as 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. although there may be adjustments due to the current county order. At least 20 different flower arrangements are available for Mother’s Day orders, with prices starting at $34.99. Orders for deliveries must be a minimum of $25, with local delivery fees added by location. Deliveries are generally available to the Watsonville area, in addition to Aptos, Aromas, Royal Oaks and rural areas. Named after the original owner, Flowers by Toshi has been locally owned and operated by Ryoko Kozuki since the 1980s.

Flower Outlet is expected to reopen next week in anticipation of orders for Mother’s Day flowers. A family owned and operated business since 1999, Flower Outlet is asking customers to call or come to the store when making orders. Current hours will be adjusted in observance of the current shelter-in-place order. Customers can also inquire about same day deliveries and the types of arrangements that will be available for Mother’s Day and beyond. Although their flower shop has been open since 1999, owners Steve and Hi-yun have been operating local businesses for nearly 30 years.

Santa Cruz Floral is a longtime local business that also reopened this month to adjusted hours. Family owned and operated by Bruce and Nita Robertson for 30 years, the full service florist is open 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday. The store is accepting online and phone orders for no touch deliveries. Deliveries are available six days a week to Santa Cruz County, although Saturday orders need to be preordered. Same day delivery is offered only Monday through Friday. Santa Cruz Floral requests at least one day in advance of Mother’s Day with same day delivery possible if the order is made by noon.

Seascape Flowers is currently on an adjusted scheduled, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. However, beginning next week, the boutique floral shop will go back to normal working hours from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. However, customers will not be allowed inside the store but can browse several floral arrangements through the windows of the store near the corner of Seascape Boulevard and Sumner Avenue. Customers can also order from a large selection of flowers, plants and more online, with prices starting at $30. Delivery dates, including same day can be requested online although its recommended to consider an alternative delivery date for Mother’s Day. Founded by Laurie Craig in 1990, Seascape Flowers has been featured in several national publications, including The Knot and Martha Stewart Weddings. Laurie’s daughter Darcy has helped manage the family business for more than 15 years.

Located near Dominican Hospital, Stewart’s Florist will be re-opening next week in advance of Mother’s Day weekend. Although walk up visitors will be not be allowed to enter the store, owner Franklyn Lopes will be busy greeting customers outside for deliveries and curbside pickups. Adjusted hours for phone deliveries are currently Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m and online orders are also available.  Due to the Covid-19 situation, Stewart’s Floral will not be able to deliver on Mother’s Day, the day after, and on Saturdays and Sundays. All deliveries require a minimum order of $50, with a variable service fee to areas as far as Watsonville and Felton/Scotts Valley. Serving Santa Cruz County for more than 70 years Stewart’s Floral is one of the oldest full service florists in the area. Franklyn Lopes recently celebrated his 21st anniversary as store owner.

Susi’s Flowers plans to only take a limited quantity of orders for Mother’s Day. Located in the revamped Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center, the popular florist has adjusted it store hours for “no contact” services Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, Susi’s Flowers also offers same day deliveries from Watsonville to Scotts Valley with fees starting at $10. Customers can make online orders on beautiful floral arrangements starting at $55. Founded in 1996 by longtime resident Susi Jackson, the charming boutique florist is now owned by her friend and hardworking former manager Katie Vidaurri.

Tamy’s Flower Connection is taking preorders for locally grown fresh flowers right now for Mother’s Day. In business locally since 1987, the popular business founded by Tamy Churchfield also offers free local delivery with a no contact option for local online orders online. For the freshest, seasonal flowers available, the florist suggests ordering one of the daily deals, with prices starting at $61.95 for a standard designer bouquet. Several additional options for Mother’s Day are available online starting at $46.95.

The Flower Shack has been one of the highest rated local flower shops for over 10 years. At this time, the Santa Cruz store on Branciforte Avenue is offering a walk up self-service for affordable flowers in a Mason jar with prices starting at $10 but only through an honor system or online through a web portal, which also includes larger items for deliveries only. Additional online orders can be placed through the main Flower Shack website, in addition to phone orders. The Branciforte store will be open on a limited basis from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, May 8 through Sunday May 10. The second location is temporarily closed until further notice. Owner Cathy Britton has been serving the Santa Cruz area for more than 30 years.
