One of the most important places to honor American veterans is unquestionably Arlington Cemetery. The final resting place for more than 400,000 individuals is over 624 acres, with a portion of it along the Potomac River. Arlington National Cemetery holds a wreath-laying ceremony and observance program each year at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The wreath-laying ceremony begins at 11 a.m., followed by the observance program. If you wish to attend this event, you should arrive at the designated viewing spot no later than 9:30 a.m. Before entering Arlington Cemetery, you must pass through a security clearance line.
Arlington National Cemetery Tour
If you don’t want to walk to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, you can take a tour vehicle for a fee. You can buy tickets online or at the Visitor Center. General admission tickets for adults start at $17.95 and $7.95 if you’re a veteran. Uniformed military do not pay any fee to ride the tour vehicle.

Many say that this is the finest military museum in the entire museum. To mark the occasion, the National WWII Museum offers all veterans free admission. On Friday, November 11, the Museum will host specMuseuments, including an American Legion Band performance. Following the band’s performance is a Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony. The ceremony will also feature a special guest appearance by Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam veteran Jay Vargas.

One of the most unhappy places to visit on Veterans Day is the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. However, if you wish to visit on Veterans Day, you may be unable to make a reservation to see the USS Arizona Memorial. Currently, no ticket reservations are available for a tour of the USS Arizona. However, you may be able to obtain tickets on November 10, beginning at 3 p.m. HST. On the other hand, if tickets are unavailable for the tour, you can see different sites at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial. For example, you can see the theater’s two exhibit galleries, Remembrance Circle, and a Pearl Harbor program. If you need additional ideas, consider seeing the USS Missouri, USS Oklahoma, USS Bowfin, and Aviation Museum. However, you must visit the respective websites for more information.

You won’t be able to a Chicago Bears football game at Soldier Field on Veterans Day. Instead, you can enjoy Chicago’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony on the field. If you go, you must enter through Gate O, with the doors opening at 10 a.m. While the event begins at 11 a.m., you should also see the Soldier Field Veterans Memorial outside the stadium. The suggested clothing to wear is either business attire or service dress uniform. The oldest NFL stadium, Soldier Field, is named after veterans who died during World War I. Speaking of the Chicago Bears, they meet division rivals the Detroit Tigers on November 13.
Pritzker Military Museum & Library
In addition to Soldier Field, another great Chicago spot to visit on November 11 is the Pritzker Military Museum & Library. Just one block from the Art Institute of Chicago, the museum has a permanent museum with over 115,000 artifacts. Among its notable collections are items relating to Winston Churchill and WWI memorabilia. Additionally, you may enjoy the permanent exhibit of the Medal of Honor. In November, the Museum is hosting a museum celebration to honor America’s veterans. This includes free admission for everyone on November 10 and 11. If you have children, they can send a card to servicemembers who spend the holidays away from home.
Navy Pier
Don’t overlook Navy Pier if you’re in Chicago on Veterans Day. Named in honor of WWI Naval veterans, Navy Pier is easily one of Chicago’s most family-friendly attractions. Although the information is not currently available, there will be free discounts for veterans. A complimentary ride on the Centennial Wheel is among the likely freebies for veterans.

Although the men who fought at the Alamo aren’t technically U.S. veterans, this historic mission is worth mentioning. After all, the most famous battle during the Texas Revolution was fought here in 1836. Moreover, the remaining members of the Texas Army did become members of the U.S. military when Texas became a state in 1856. On Veterans Day, the Alamo is hosting a Military Appreciation Family Day. At the Alamo Plaza and Gardens, this event will feature live music and activities that pay tribute to America’s veterans. If you wish to visit the interior of the Alamo church, you must book reservations as soon as possible.

In Boston, one of the best things you can do on Veterans Day is to see historic sites along the Freedom Trail. Extending 2.5 miles across a red brick path, the Freedom Trail features 16 sites with an essential connection to the American Revolution. For example, the Paul Revere House, Old North Church, and the Boston Massacre Site can be seen. Moreover, you can stop by the Bunker Hill Monument and the USS Constitution. While along the Trail at Boston Common, you may also want to see the Robert Gould Shaw/54th Regiment Memorial. The memorial is located near the northeast corner of Boston Common. Although Veterans Day is November 11, Boston’s Veterans Day Parade will be held on Saturday, November 5, beginning at noon.

With America’s largest concentration of military members, San Diego will surely be a top destination on Veterans Day. You can start your morning watching or participating in the San Diego Veterans Day Parade. However, the city also hosts Fleet Week from November 1 to 13, 2022. You will love visiting the USS Midway Museum for the Salute to Veterans celebration despite all this. Featuring live music, food, and activities for kids, the Museum is accessible to all museum military and veterans. This event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. Coinciding with this event, the Museum is having a VeMuseum Day Blood Drive.

Although you will likely see the 25-foot-tall Kissing Statue inspired by the iconic 1945 photo in Times Square, there’s something else to see. The National Salute to Bob Hope and the Military monument are not far from the statue. Here, you’ll see a sculpture of Bob Hope as he tells jokes to sculpted military members. There are 15 sculptures, s including some members in a wheelchair and on crutches. If you get closer, you can listen to a recording of Bob Hope telling jokes during a USO program.
