Conveniently close to the Embarcadero for strolling, Hyatt Regency is lauded as very pet friendly. The hotel accepts dogs weighing up to 50 lbs., or two dogs up to 75 lbs. total. Fees for up to six nights is $100, with an additional $100 for longer stays. Visitors and guests will also enjoy the Hyatt Regency San Francisco’s 42,000 sq. ft. lobby, largest in the world.

InterContinental San Francisco allows up to two dogs weighing up to 50 lbs. The fee is $100 per pet and cats and dogs are allowed. Guests with dogs will stay in designated pet friendly rooms. Also onsite is a fitness center, pool and the Michelin-starred Luce Restaurant. Most dog friendly destinations in the city will require a private vehicle to reach. Suggestions may include Crissy Field, Fort Funston and Golden Gate Park. The latter has a gated dog park, in addition to other parks like Corona Heights and Rincon Hill.

Marine Memorial Club & Hotel is a rare San Francisco hotel with no fees for pets. Located near Union Square, this hotel also offers a VIP (Very Important Pet) package, which includes a pet bed. Front desk staff can make recommendations for pet friendly destinations nearby, like Golden Gate Park. This may also include Baker Beach and Fort Funston. Marine Memorial Club & Hotel also a rare local hotel that does not charge a resort fee. Three resident bulldogs serve as happy hosts to visiting animals. Opened last year Staypineapple San Francisco quickly established itself as one of the city’s most pet friendly hotels. Part of the appeal are special offers especially geared towards pets of any size. For instance, the Bark and Park package with 50 percent off parking and pet fees. Another attractive package is Pineapple Pup, with 50 percent off pet fees and nice perks like a water bowl, treats and pet bed. Located within a restored Victorian building near Union Square, Staypineapple San Francisco is a short walk from Chinatown. Of course, Union Square itself can make for a nice stroll from the hotel.

Public Transportation

The Alton is literally an eye blink away from the historic streetcar pick up point. The F- Market & Wharves route provides service to spots like Ferry Building Marketplace and Civic Center. Service operates daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Regular Muni public buses also operate in the area. However, if you want to ride a cable car to Union Square, the Powell/Mason cable car turnaround is just .2 miles away. The cable car operates daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Please know that the streetcars can be full of passengers, especially on weekends. On the other hand, the streetcar is quite convenient due to its proximity to the hotel.

The Alton offers 248 guestrooms and specialty suites in eight categories. Room sizes start at 230 square feet for an Essential King or 2 Queens to 635 square feet for a One Bedroom Alcatraz View Suite. If you go, definitely consider getting a room with view of the San Francisco Bay. On the other hand, the city views are pretty impressive as well.
